Take 1 Wegovy tablet once a day, when you wake up in the morning, on an empty stomach, with water (no more than 4 ounces). Swallow it whole. Then wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink or take other oral medicines. Always follow the instructions that came with your medication.
Step 1: Take it first thing when you wake up
Take your tablet in the morning, on an empty stomach, before you eat or drink anything. Don’t take more than 1 tablet each day. If you miss a dose of Wegovy tablets, skip the missed dose. Go back to your regular schedule and take your next dose the following day. Don’t take 2 tablets at once to make up for a missed dose.
Step 2: Swallow the tablet whole with no more than 4 ounces of water
Swallow the tablet whole. Don’t split, crush, chew or dissolve it. Take it with water (no more than 4 ounces), and don’t take it with any other liquid. Don’t take a tablet that looks damaged or discolored. It should be white to light yellow. Don’t share your medication with others.
Step 3: Wait at least 30 minutes
After taking your tablet, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking any other oral medicines. After 30 minutes, you can eat, drink and take other oral medicines. That gives the medicine time to be properly absorbed.
Note: If you miss a dose, see “What should I do if I miss a dose of my weight loss medication?” in this help center.
Why the timing matters
Semaglutide, the active ingredient in the Wegovy pill, is absorbed mostly in your stomach. Every Wegovy pill includes an ingredient called SNAC (salcaprozate sodium). SNAC lets the medicine be taken by mouth once a day: it helps the medicine survive in your stomach long enough to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Taking the pill on an empty stomach and waiting 30 minutes gives the medicine time to absorb uninterrupted and as intended. Take the pill the same way every day for it to work as intended.
Storing your tablets
Store Wegovy tablets at room temperature, 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Keep the tablets in the original closed Wegovy bottle until you’re ready to take one. Don’t store them in any other container. Store them in a dry place, away from moisture. Keep Wegovy and all medicines out of the reach of children. See “How do I store my weight loss medication?” in this help center for more.
